Zur Tatzeit am gestrigen Abend war Merkel im blutroten Hosenanzug zusammen mit Aydan Özuguz auf einer Integrationsparty. Während man Selfies mit Merkel schießen konnte, tobte draußen der blutige Terror. Heute trug Merkel einen schwarzen Hosenanzug.
Pünktlich um 15 Uhr tauchte sie mit ihrem Tross auf, um öffentlichkeitswirksam Trauer zu bekunden. Am Vormittag hatte sie schon angekündigt, nicht auf einen Besuch des Weihnachtsmarktes verzichten zu wollen.
Wie können wir damit leben, dass beim unbeschwerten Bummel über einen Weihnachtsmarkt, also an einem Ort, wo wir das Leben feiern, ein Mörder so Vielen den Tod bringt? Eine einfache Antwort darauf habe auch ich nicht. Ich weiß nur, wir können und wir wollen nicht damit leben, auf all das zu verzichten. Auf die Weihnachtsmärkte, die schönen Stunden mit Familie und Freunden draußen auf unseren Plätzen.
Merkel und ihre Freunde hatten weiße Rosen dabei und die Kameras ratterten los. Aiman Mazyek ist ausnahmsweise nicht zu sehen.
Danach ließ man sich am Tatort herumführen. Diese Bilder gehen um die Welt, während Innenminister Thomas de Mazière noch keinen plausiblen Tatverdächtigen vorweisen kann. Denn, wie nun bei einer Pressekonferenz des Generalbundesanwaltes herauskam:
„Die Person stand nicht lückenlos vom Tatzeitpunkt bis zur Festnahme unter Beobachtung. Der Festgenommene hat von Beginn an abgestritten, dass er etwas mit der Tat zu tun hat“, sagt der Berliner Polizeipräsident. Der mutmaßliche Fahrer sei wenige Meter verfolgt worden, dann unter Umständen außer Sicht geraten – später sei eine Person festgenommen worden, die zur Täterbeschreibung passe. (Focus)
Zuvor hatte auch schon Berlins Polizeipräsident Stellung bezogen:
Die Polizei hat Zweifel daran, ob der festgenommene Pakistaner für den Anschlag auf den Weihnachtsmarkt an der Berliner Gedächtniskirche verantwortlich ist. „Es ist in der Tat nach meinem Stand unsicher, ob das wirklich der Fahrer war“, sagte Berlins Polizei-Präsident Klaus Kandt auf einer Pressekonferenz. Die britische Daily Mail widmet sich der Frage Merkels politischer Zukunft und bringt in diesem Zusammenhang die AfD ganz groß heraus:

The record influx of migrants in the last 12 months has hit Merkel’s popularity ratings and boosted support for the AfD with the 62-year-old having recently announced her intention to stand for re-election again next year.
The German leader has staked much of her political capital in opening up Germany’s doors to refugees and in doing so divided a reunited land.
What began as an act of great humanity, borne in part out of Germany’s lingering guilt for the Second World War, has morphed into a political nightmare for Merkel.
The news that Monday night’s attacker is a Pakistani asylum seeker – known to police as a petty criminal but not as an Islamic fanatic – ahead of her bid for a fourth term in office next year may be the final nail in the coffin of her ambitions.
This morning the Islamophobic and anti-immigration populist party AfD wasted no time in laying the blame on Merkel.
‚The milieu in which such acts can flourish has been negligently and systematically imported over the past year and a half,‘ the group’s co-leader Frauke Petry said in a statement, in a clear reference to Merkel’s decision to let in refugees.
‚Germany is no longer safe. It should be the responsibility of the chancellor to tell you this. But since she won’t do it, then I’ll say it,‘ Petry declared, demanding ‚control over our territory, no ifs and buts‘. […]
Now the nightmare has come true for Germany: a country which has not sent its troops to fight anywhere since the Second World War is now at war with ISIS.
Merkel has so far refused to amend her refugee policy, however, insisting that Germany can take in large numbers of migrants in the years to come. Allies and critics alike say she ignored the warning signs of calamity at her peril.
The rape and murder of a beautiful young student in the city of Freiburg in October by a 17-year-old migrant was bad for her. What happened in Berlin is a catastrophe and one which she may find difficult to survive.
Germany – which this year has seen an ISIS refugee disciple blow himself up outside a cafe in Bavaria, another asylum seeker trying to hack Chinese tourists to death aboard a train and a Syrian refugee detained for allegedly planning to bomb a Berlin airport – was braced for trouble.
Merkel’s popularity has waned over the record refugee influx, although her decision to seek a fourth term in next year’s elections was greeted with approval from 64 percent of the population as measures to curb the refugee influx – including through a controversial deal with Turkey – began to show results.
